You have to ask yourself what Hamas and the citizens of Gaza did during their invasion of sovereign Israel to mitigate harm to non-combatants, especially to women and children.

Did they deliver advanced warning of their attacks?
Did they drop leaflets? Make phone calls? Send text messages?
Did they evacuate the civilians prior to the attack?
Did they provide safe corridors for escape?
Did they provide humanitarian zones, complete with hospitals, sanitation, shelter, and food?
Did they ensure the safety and dignity of women and protect them from war crimes, such as rape?

Did they separate women, children, and elderly who were hiding in bomb shelters before they threw grenades inside?

Hamas is at least as evil as the nazis were. In 1941 the Grand Mufti met with Hitler to reach an agreement to jointly kill all the Jews in the ME, and when the Arabs tried to invade the new state of Israel in 1948, the Secretary General of the Arab league announce the purpose of the invasion was to kill all the Jews. In 1988 and again in 2017, Hamas stated clearly that it would not stop attacking Israel until Israel was destroyed.

The fact that Hamas has not been able to kill as many Jews as the nazis means they are less competent, not that they are any less evil.

If we disregard scale (time, power, ability, weapons, infrastructure, planning), what Hamas did on October 7 was every bit as terrible as any other genocide, in that Hamas AND the other citizens of Gaza deliberately and intentionally killed or took hostage every person they could lay their hands on that day. They spared no one, from the smallest child to the most elderly. They did not make any distinctions, but killed or took everyone. Some they raped and tortured first. All of this was done with a frenzy and a jubilance which is lies at the heart of the intent to genocide.

The answer to your question, then, is that the perpetrators of October 7 have committed the most terrible evil that exists or can be conceived.

The most disturbing part of this "debate" in the U.S. is the inability or unwillingness of the pro-Palestinian camp to think logically.

Ever since the October 6th(?) incursion, Hamas has had the power to stop the carnage IMMEDIATELY. All they have to do is lay down their arms, surrender, and give up their hostages. This has been true each and every day that this turmoil has gone on. Indeed, they could have claimed that the incursion was the act of renegades within Hamas and not their formal decision, and sacrificed a few fukkers in show trials.

Even if they didn't surrender, Hamas has the resources to dramatically minimize "civilian" casualties by relocating its operations away from population centers (schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, etc.) AND sheltering civilians in their network of tunnels. They have deliberately chosen not to do either of these things.

Hamas has continually sabotaged aid and relief efforts, effectively stealing food and supplies that are provided by outsiders - mainly Israel - from its own people.

Hamas RELIES ON the fact that the IDF and the rest of the world VALUES GAZAN LIVES more than Hamas values them. Hamas WANTS civilian casualties because it helps them in their propaganda war, bringing pressure on the IDF to back off.
