Is asking $250 too much for a small cardboard box?

I once sold a G.I. Joe empty box for $100. If someone bids, it's worth that. If not, then perhaps not.

The original boxes for vintage firearms were usually thrown away. You pay as much for an original box for a collector firearm today as you once paid for the firearm. Supply and demand and collectability.

No, but a solid $150.00 given the condition.

I have sold them before.

There was a shop in my AO that went under after the owner died and I sold a bunch of empty boxes for them. I got $350.00 for a 70s era Colt Python box. Easy money as I got half. ;)

Hell, they even make repro side panels for them now.

In fact it's something to look out for as you might get a box, but not the box that the gun came in.

Ebay is so strict about firearms that I'm surprised that they even sell the boxes.
