It's a done deal and it won't be close. Sliwa and Cuomo have no chance in a city with nearly 70 percent registered Democrat voters. They will do what was previously thought unthinkable. Elect a Communist leader to high office. It will be a sad day for America but hopefully the example of NYC's deterioration will head off any possibility of repeats elsewhere.

This is No Big Deal. New York is not a Duchy. It is a large part of a U.S. State and a significant city in U.S. and the World. But like California, it is already fucked up with an incompetent, massive, obstructionist government (it took TEN YEARS to do the PERMITTING for the new World Trade Center), and he literally cannot make it much worse than it already is.

He will seek to impose rent controls because the masses like the idea of rent controls, but he can't do it on his own. And these rent controls, like all of NY's previous rent controls, will benefit a few people but harm many times more than it benefits. He will do a few showcase socialist projects like city-owned grocery stores, but they will not make a dent in the high cost of everything in NY.

I look at it as a situation comedy, played out in real life and in real time. As of this writing, the Socialist has a clear majority of voter support in this three-way race. Sliwa could off himself tomorrow, but people who support him will not shift to Cuomo, they will sit it out.

Truly, New Yorkers deserve this.

The Communists actually disown the guy, saying he is deceiving the working class, and in fact he is not now, nor has he ever been a Communists Party member. He is like Bernie Sanders, Zohran Mamdani, the Democrat nominee for mayor of New York City, is a socialist. He is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which endorses him. That doesn't sound much better, in my opinion, but it is, what it is, and to be honest, I get a little hazy on the difference, but that answer came from The Federalists, so I suspect it is correct. His platform is definitely socialist, including proposals for fare-free city buses, a rent freeze on rent-stabilized units, universal child care, city-owned grocery stores, and the construction of 200,000 new affordable housing units.

At least he is not a convicted criminal.

He's a con man just like Obama. We'll find out how radical and dangerous he is after he is in office just like we did with Obama.

All different flavors of Marxism.

What politician isn't a con man? Only the people of New York will actually find out. You, me and most of the rest of this board, will be relatively unaffected. It's New York, not exactly known for decent Mayors. Last one, might have actually been Rudy, before he went nuts, and went for being an out of power nutso con man.

NYC is the financial center of this country, problems here tend to have a ripple effect on the rest of the US.

Bloomberg wasn't bad, he was just a nanny state idiot, but he kept the economy working and the cops supported.

I've been an outer boro person my entire life, and won't move out due to family connections. I've just got to ride the lighting I guess.

I think Marxism is actually a subset of Socialism. Yes, both want collective control of resources, to create economic equality but Marxism is about the class struggle to overthrow capitalism to get control. All Marxists are Socialists, but all Socialists aren't necessarily Marxists.

Marxism is the root. Socialism may have been a vague idea at the time of the Paris Commune, but it wasn't detailed until Marx and Engels documented the overall theory.

All socialists are Marxists, a better example is all Anarchists aren't Marxists.

The problem is many of the things BOTH sides call socialism is actually a modern version of the Bismark Welfare State concept, which is what we see in many Northern European and Scandinavian countries.

Both ideas suck, but for different reasons.

I'm here for it! I can't wait.

Then they'll get the gov't they deserve. I suspect there will be an uptick in people leaving NYC in the near future.

Now would be a good time to build walls around Florida and Texas.

Rent control (euphemistically called rent stabilization) even hurts the people who have lower rent. The landlords don't fix much of anything--if they fix anything at all. I know because I lived there for several years.
