I watched a piece on this on the news last night. A statistic was quoted that 75% of the adult US population is overweight or obese. WOW. Americans need to learn self restraint when it comes to their eating habits. Pharmaceuticals are not a replacement for common sense. How about promoting physical exercise with the most important one being "push back away from the table." A man in Germany once told me something along the lines of "Americans are the only nation that drives up to a window to pick up a super sized burger and fries and a DIET COKE." SMH.

We also heavily subsidize unhealthy foods while providing little to no subsidies to healthy ones, that's been our federal agricultural policy since the early 1970's and food companies and big pharma love it that way... sell you food to make you sick, then sell you drugs to keep you sick, what's not to love?

I live in an area where folks, most of my peers are elderly, are really watching their diets. Bordering on obsession. At community pot lucks, it is really difficult to provide a dish that meets everyone's dietary needs. Gluten, fat, nightshade, sugar, and a host of others, too many to enumerate. SMH, I am fortunate that I have never had to experience any of those limitations, but I've never had to be concerned with weight or BMI either.
