So touching on this again, the oncologist wanted to keep trying the immunotherapy. The logic was to give me pre-meds to take 12 and 6 hours prior to a re-attempt at the second session, which I did do this afternoon.
They shot me up with more steroids prior to the session, along with some other drugs to counteract another reaction should one happen. and intead of administerng the first immunotherapy drug (they do two, one after the other, 30 minutes each) for the standard 30 minutes, they slowed the IV to an hour intake instead.
I did start to have another reaction about a half hour into it and given my experience with the first event, I recognized it right away and informed the technicians. I got a recliner next to the desk this time and they were prepared for an event. So they paused the IV for 30 minutes. After time was up they began re-administering it and I went the full 60 and completed the first drug administration without further incident.
The second IV drug they slowed down to 45 minutes rather than the standard 30 minutes and there was no reaction to that drug.
The first drug was the one I had a reaction to the first time, btw.
So I suppose I'm just gonna keep following the program, and just accept that they've done this before and, as I was told by the oncologist, ''rare events'' aren't always so rare as the commercial says.
I'll have a couple of sleepless/restless nights and will see if things smooth out. The immediate after effects, I mean.
Another one in a few weeks. Will see how it goes...
