I'm tired of anemic guitar amps!

That sounds very valuable and collectable.

Guy was going to throw it out. I think his wife was after him to pitch it. He tried to sell me it for $25 but I balked, so he gave it to me for free just to get it out of there. :SMILEW~130:

they have a smooth straight taper from the round top to the much narrower base, and the tubes then go into some sort of adapter to fit them to the radio chassis and appear to only have four pins each.

Like this?

Similar. Mine might be slightly taller, but that looks like the right pin-out, however, mine are far older looking and not in nearly as good shape. They are totally opaque like the one on the left and there's nary any label or lettering left on them.

These Oscillation tubes (used in RF welders) were about 8 inches tall. Maybe 10.

Those are 700 bucks on eBay now.

Y'know... look at the pins on those. They're almost as big as the plate cap, right? Makes sense, because the cathode current is going to be almost the same as the plate current.

Now look at this one. Gigantic plate cap, draws so much current it needs a heat sink. But look at the pins. Tiny. A small fraction of the size of the plate cap.

I have a scar on one of my fingers from a Crack in the insulated wire on a plate b++ on a tube like that.

Sent me to the ER.

The speaker has a field coil! It looks like the Fender Model 26 I restored. The field coil doubles as the choke in the power supply. ('Xcept this one looks like a bell transformer, which it very well may be). The tube on the left says 6A7. Have you turned it on?
I don't have that I just shared the pic from an AI search based on toobfreak desc.

My buddy used to painstakingly restore stuff like that, you should have seen some of the fantastic stuff he restored. I'll never forget this all chrome tubed Fisher tuner he was restoring for somebody. Covered in tubes, the chassis was all chrome and each of the many tubes each had a chrome cover too Might have even had a tuning eye. Thing looked like a 1950 Cadillac. Must have weighed 60 pounds. The stuff looked like and worked like new when he was finished.

But he passed away 16 years ago. Here's a picture I took of him standing next to a three way home stereo tower we were building. What you see there is a tweeter horn, a midrange cabinet, and a bass cabinet (all empty) which actually tied into the floor and used the cavity under the room as its bass enclosure.

Now see, discovery needs a series that features cool shit like this.

So sorry for the loss of your friend.

I was going to ask if you guys were familiar of tuning eye tubes. 100%!

Hey. That one tube says it's a Raytheon tube.
I saw that too.

I wondered if it might help.

I tried to reinvent the speaker, once. Long time ago and I thought I was onto some good ideas about a speaker with no magnet.

I had no idea that had already been done.

This is a nice one. "Regenerative receiver". The terminals on the right say A battery and B battery. :p

It's in very nice condition. That's the original green wire.

Not knowing better, I destroyed so many valuable radios in my youth.

I wish I had do overs.

Thought I'd clicked on the TGP tab accidentally. Um, I've built 2 amps from scratch (not kits) a '51 Deluxe 5B1, and a '59 Bassman 5F6-A. They both work.
