This thread is a segue into the twilight zone. Trivial. Let's stay on topic, though. Don't side track people sidetracking. Let's ignore the high black crime rate. And particularly, the fact that Zimmerman's neighborhood was being targeted by black burglars. I understand that G.Z. fended off a home invasion by black youths in his neighborhood. Let's don't mention THAT. Let's don't mention the bigger threat to young black males: EACH OTHER. Not cops or paranoid whites with guns. And the fact T.M. affected a black gangbanger rapper wannabe persona. Let's talk, instead, about the presupposed racism of noticing the creole accent of a witness. Even Jimmy Carter accepts the Zimmerman verdict.
"I think the jury made the right decision based in the evidence presented because the prosecution inadvertently set the standard so high that the jury had to be convinced that it was a deliberate act by Zimmerman and that he was not defending himself and so forth," he said. "It's not a moral question, it's a legal question and the American law requires that the jury listens to the evidence presented."
Asked if he thought Martin's killing and Zimmerman's case presented any broader issues of race, Carter said not necessarily, considering the prosecution didn't bring up any alleged racial motivation during the trial.
Carter said he agreed with President Barack Obama regarding the trial.
