The same Republican party which doubled the federal debt, started three wars, imprisoned US citizens indefinitely without habaes corpus, spied on tens of millions of Americans without warrants, waterboarded prisoners, lost guns in Mexico, lost American lives in several attacks on overseas diplomotic missions, created a trillion dollar medical entitlement program (without making an attempt to pay for it), and ran the economy right off a cliff.

Here are the facts. Last time the GOP was in charge of the Senate, the deficit was at $170 billion and set to balance in several years. Then, the Democrats took over and exploded the deficit, and now we've had 6 back-to-back $500 billion+ deficits and 4 back-to-back trillion dollar deficits. Indeed, we did overspend during the Bush years, but Obama was far, far worse. And the pre-Bush GOP Congress was quite fiscally responsible. I'd certainly like to go back to the Gingrich prosperity years(the best Clinton years, 1996-2000, were with a GOP Congress that past conservative reforms like welfare reform).

Also, in the 1990's, there was a vote to add a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Most Democrats opposed it and most Republicans favored it. The measure failed by 1 vote. If the GOP succeeded then in passing the amendment, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today.
