I believe Venezuela and USA were on better terms when Biden president, but I hear there was still beef though too during Biden’s term.

The dollar is used because the local currency is not stable and people don't trust it. The US dollar is trusted.

Nothing to do with being enemies or not.

Maduro is a pile of human extrament.

Just look at how democrats viewed him during the Biden administration, with many outraged Biden had lifted sanctions on such a terrible regime.

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – Former Orlando chief of police and current Congresswoman (D-Fl) Val Demings blasted the Biden administration for lifting some sanctions on Venezuela, saying that it will only help the Venezuelan regime.

“Nicolás Maduro is a tyrant and a thug, no different than the criminals I spent 27 years putting behind bars. Easing sanctions on Venezuela will empower Maduro and his cronies, hurting Venezuelans who are struggling for freedom and democracy,” Demings said in a statement.

Associated Press reported on Monday that Chevron will be able to negotiate its license with state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), but not to drill or export petroleum originated in Venezuela.

It also stated that the US will take Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, former national treasurer and ex PDVSA financial vice-president, off the sanctioned individual list. Malpica is also the nephew of Cilia Flores, Venezuela’s First Lady.

The gesture is meant to encourage Venezuela’s opposition to sit back down with the Maduro regime to seek a solution for the dire situation of the country, as well as a sign that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has forced the United States to rethink its international strategy.

More than six million Venezuelans have emigrated from their country escaping the government’s repression and its economic uncertainty. More than three-quarters of the ones who remain live with less than $1.90 a day, besides dealing with frequent electrical blackouts and lack of running water.

Many Democrats, including Demings, consider that the Biden administration is making a mistake in lifting the sanctions.

“We don’t help anybody by appeasing socialist dictators. We must focus on lowering the cost of gas for Florida families without enriching a murderous regime,” Demings added.

The man was well known to be funnelling drugs into the US, killings hundreds of thousands of Americans every year.

Venezuela has been at war with the US for a very long time, it's about time we returned the favor.

Why don’t they use the Chinese Yuan then? China and Venezuela have good relations, I believe.

Because Ecuador uses the dollar, and mints its own coins in dollar denominations, and Zimbabwe.

China is difficult with money. They don't let money out of the country easily, so many restrictions.

The US Dollar is the currency of the world. If I rmember right, and I've had a bit to drink coming from a christmas dinner with the family, the dollar is tied to the Oil standard, used to be gold, but now its oil, and that is a universal baseline.

We Americans are slow in learning things like what you typed. Unfortunately, this is not in education in high school. Just getting a simple knowledge would be an eye opener for citizens. The reserve currency affected 95% of the world after WW 2. Now it is in the mid 50's from what I have read. It fluctuates somewhat. China is building foundation with infrastructure. And with that comes safety.

China manipulates its currency more than any other country.

Well, it was trusted. The rest of the world is looking at replacing the US dollar are the foundational currency, because of your political instability and a complete lack of trust in your government to honour its commitments.

What is "it"?
