If Mexico can't eliminate the cartels, should the US military do the job ?

At this time the "cartels" are highly sophisticated and heavily armed. They are far from the "Frito Bandido" cartoon character. Video shows them with high dollar military equipment and sophisticated weaponry. They have completely controlled our southern borders for decades...charging admission to the U.S. for every single "immigrant" from all over the globe ( 8 grand is a good deal for a ticket to America). But now that we have a president.. that stream of income is about to end. But, if they want to FOAFO.. the U.S. military has the capacity to easily make them find out. We have something called a "warthog".. comprende amigo?

I did not say he did. Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, and Clinton did however. We invaded Panama, supported the Columbian military with intelligence and dollars, supported the Mexican military with intelligence and dollars. They're gone and the cartels are still here.
You said "we have been fighting cartels in the U S since the 1970s - that includes 2021-2025 (Biden)

He was president from 2016 to 2020 and lots of guns went over the border, Trump did Jack-shit to stop it.

He's taking action NOW. Stay tuned.

Yes that one gun shop, makes a very clear point. Gun control for the farmer, the single mom, the accountant that sees the numbers, etc...absolutely no hope for a firearm for protection.....But the criminal cartels that sell drugs and shoot people in the street with military grade machine guns...they have all the guns they can use.

Trying to portray the Mexican drug violence as being due to Democrat presidents is childish. US gun manufacturers are making millions from the guns smuggling, it is riddled with criminals on each side of the border and those criminals do not give a **** who the president is or what party he's from.

If you're just another "Things are gonna be great now we have Trump" trumpanzee then I won't be taking you seriously.

Also Mexican Army members have a bad habit of deserting and selling their amrs to the Cartels. More enterprising ones just act as mercenaries and guards for shipments.

Self-Defense. I know leftwingers have trouble wrapping their heads around this simple concept, but it has never been more relevant than right now. Mexican cartels & gangs from other latin-American countries have been killing Americans with fentanyl & other drugs + violence at a rate far surpassing Americans killed in Vietnam.

ACTION is required.

US Military needs to go into Mexico and team up with Mexican military, and destroy the cartels. This should be done with or without the consent of Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum.
What makes you think that if Claudia isn't on board, the Mexican military would be?

Oh, I can assure you that the cartel creeps very much DO care who is US president. To say they don't, could be the dumbest thing posted in this discussion so far.

Trump & Biden are like night and day to the cartels, and they know it. And they care about the political parties too. VERY much.

The price of drugs wasn't higher during Trump than Biden.

So you would agree that people who want to end foreign aid are idiots, yes?

Because that's what the money is for. Assisting in drug interdictions, training the police of other countries to combat terrorism, and so forth. We also provide foreign aid to combat disease before it gets to our country, like Ebola. We provide birth control to prevent overpopulation which would then lead to more diseases and starvation and a strain on the world food supply.

All this for around 1 percent of our budget, with a huge cost benefit return for our investment.

Yet some ignorant people are led to believe foreign aid is a huge part of our budget.

I also have a surprise for you. The US military has been operating in South America for decades to provide security and stability.

Um, yeah, because going into other countries worked out so well for us in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam...

Here's how we end the fentanyl epidemic. We actually invest in drug rehab treatment.

For some perspective for the forum please post what America spends per year on drug rehab treatment.

Threatening tariffs on Mexican imports is unlikely to endear the Mexican president to Trump and without a close relationship we'll be pissing in the wind.

I don't know, but I know (from having lived in Mexico for 9 years) that the Mexican military is not as closely attached to the presidency as is the case in the US. For all these things, time will tell. Jan 2025 is an early stage for all this.

An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.
