Then why didn't they pass immigration reform or just give amnesty when they had control of everything at the beginning of Obama's first term?

Second question:

Are Republicans smart enough to know they are playing with fire on this issue? If not handled properly this could severely damage our future presidential chances. And I'm not referring to 2016, I'm thinking the damage could be long term.

Because Government control of Health Care was a bigger "prize" than Amnesty at the time.

In order to wreck the system you first must create large entitlement systems THEN you flood the market and overwhelm the system.

You can then move in with your "solution" which will be even MORE Government control over a system and situation that THEY created under the guise of "Reform".
