In my school district we were told the very same thing: they CAN come in and they might ask kids if they are being trafficked.

I guess Democrats/liberals don't care about trafficked kids (see how that works?)

There are definitely teachers out there that have had the wrong kind of influence on kids, and that's terrible.

But I can't even let a kid use my hand lotion at school, not even if their hands are chapped like crazy. We need permission slips for sunscreen. We can't even give OTC medication WITH parents' permission unless we have a dr note (in the office I mean). And this is also correct.

I was being facetious, but the kind of stuff you describe is the sad consequence of primarily two things:

1. The removal of common sense applied through local authority to a centralized type of authority now where all decisions are made by a single central command far removed from the scene now where everyone else involved then just becomes an idiot following commands, unthinking, deferring to the higher central authority while shrugging shoulders no matter how stupid the actions or decisions, saying they were just doing their jobs (or what is left of them). In the old days, people had to think intelligently and use common sense, but with the advent of the world wide web and instant communication, it is now possible to centralize thinking to one group with one system and a fixed set of biases effectively making everyone else now nothing but worker drones waiting to be set into motion--- best of all, always with the excuse that they wrere only "following orders." Everyone has their asses covered except for the kids and their parents.
2. The legalization and spread of legal authority dictating everything. All decisions by the "home office" are based on the minimum profile presented to legal risk, and the first thing that suffers is common sense.
