You should report your findings to the local and state health departments. If they turn a deaf ear, write a letter to the editor that will get published and win those poor mistreated, unwashed seniors a better facility, and a better life. Everything you recorded could be made better with a facility that has mercy on elders whose children never visit, leaving them deeply depressed; dementia patients can be humored with good dvds that reflect their view of life, and avoiding the soft porn and strong language of the current generation's movie slaps; there should never be more than 5 minutes of bathroom and regurgatative smells, because there should be a full-time janitorial staff in a human nursing home. That's why we have newspapers. They can fix human problems if any of them has a heart. Those missing limbs should have frequent massages, and physical therapy to get them over the "I'm no good anymore" hump. I read years ago about a person who had no arms taking up portrait painting with a brush between two toes, and he actually was a good artist in spite of his losses.

I once went to visit a family member at the nursing home that is in Rutledge, TN. I was surprised when I walked in to find absolutely no bad odor of any form. I was there around Halloween of 2015 and so I don't know if the place is any different now. My uncle went forward in June of the following year which sadly was just before my birthday that year and actually his passing was in another nursing home by that point. The only good thing about the place is that it was closer to where I live here in east TN.

It has become accepted for families to dump their elderly relatives into homes.
My family doesn't do that. My grandparents died at home or in hospitals after short stays. My mom moved in with me for her last two years.
You can turn them over to strangers for substandard care that costs $10000/month.. or you can provide the best care you can for next to nothing. and your loved one doesn't get warehoused with strangers and a steady procession of psychotic and incompetent caregivers.
I won't be dying in a nursing home.

There are Nursing Homes and there are Nursing Homes...some are more expensive than others...much more expensive.

Not all Nursing Homes are so horrible as the one the OP is describing.
