I took a healthy chunk out of my middle finger today

Knock on wood brother. I've seen some TERRIBLE accidents. Worst I've ever done was shot a 16 penny nail through my palm and it came out between my fingers.
20 below zero and hanging soffit rough in on scaffolding that wasn't tall enough. All the guns had the safetys removed for faster work and my fingers were so cold that I couldn't let go of the trigger fast enough. Multiple nails fired and one ricochet off the head of another and straight into my hand.

I got fired for going to the hospital instead of letting the foreman pull it out.

Shit like that is always worse when it's freezing cold. I hear you, bro.

I've shot myself a couple of times. Last one I pulled out myself and wrapped it in electrical tape. Best thing I have ever found to bind a cut and keep on working.

Bout the size of a sunflower seed and roughly 3/16ths deep. Wrestling with some copper pipe.
Why is it the littlest injuries seem to bleed the most? Damn thing bled for several hours. Didn't help that I kept banging in on shit all day at work.

Right on the knuckle so flipping liberals the finger is now on hiatus lol
Have you tried to chrome the muffler bearing? That usually will stop the knuckle bleeds for me. j/k
Keep it clean, and pour some liquid bandage on it. Hurts like hell at first, but keeps the infections away.

Table saws and Skil-Saws are the worst. There are more nine-fingered carpenters in this world, than there are whores who are Vice Presidents.

:laughing0301:
They're mostly the idiots that take the blade guards off. I worked with a guy like that in the phone company, I was helping him on a project at his house and saw the guards were removed on all his saws. I warned him. Six months or so later he was off work for over a month because his skill saw slipped and nearly cut through his thigh muscle.

I've run a thousand miles of wood through the table saw over the last 40 years. Never came close to cutting anything off or seen anyone do it. Everyone seems to have a story except me. That's a good thing.
Now you've done it, tomorrow you'll be the famous nine fingered occupant.

First crew I ever worked with had the guards on the saws tied back. Never saw any injuries but it seemed like someone cut a cord just about every week,

I occasionally cuts on my hands when I'm ripping out concrete, especially if it's got wire mesh in it. I'm used to it.

I just hate wearing gloves when it's hot out, so I throw heavy chunks of concrete around with my bare hands.

Probably not. The saw I learned on was a monstrous industrial 12 inch Delta wired for three phase. If I was ever going to cut off a finger it would have been with that scary SOB.

Muffler bearings? You have one of those old old cars!

Grampa called his wife and said he cut his finger.Grampa's wife said"The whole finger?"No honey, the one next to it Grampa said.

My second ex wife could suck the chrome off a bumper if that's what you mean?

When I was working, the retort was, "Take it home and soak it inside 'er," Oops, maybe that was, "Soak it in cider." I'm so confused.

I cut lumber resting it on my thigh. My daughter has a heart attack every time she sees me doing it.
It's just second nature to me

Been there, done that. Mine went in under the bottom thumb knuckle and came out through the web between the first finger and thumb. Never touched a bone.
Mine was in the middle of the palm and out between the middle and ring finger.
Had the metal prongs instead of the glue. Every time the foreman pulled my fingers recoiled.
I was like "nope, I'm going to the er" lol

Ouch! Hope you get a package of those bandaids that hold finger gashes together so they don't bleed. May healing be yours. I almost took off my left forefinger when I was using a quilter's rotary cutter. I was teaching a quilting class and demonstrating how to use the cutters. I was so embarrassed, but kept a first aid kit with finger fixer bandaids in case one of my students ever had such an accident. Doh! I felt like I was a Berenstein bear parent that day. The Berenstein Bears were kid books parents teaching their cubs human things and always wound up in a hospital as a results of teaching errors. They'd always explain to their children their plights one and all were good teachers of what NOT to do when doing a project around the cave house. I read my kids books every summer between school years and enjoyed the humor of the Berenstein bear books back in the 70s from the Natrona County public library in Casper Wyoming where we lived.

Bless your healing GrandpaMurkedU. Keep that bandage and hand sanitizer clean with changing as frequently as possible. :huddle::huddle:

That's the first thing my boss said, "Let me pull it out." I hid it behind my back and said, "Nope, ER" LOL. No big thing, came right out, antibiotics and a couple pain pills and I was good to go.

Razor sharp.

What is that?
A quilter's rotary cutter is a precision cutter that has a 45 mm roynd blade that is surgical sharp and looks like a tiny vinyl record except it is high carbon steel as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel. You use it to cut through multiple layers of quilters cotton that speeds the boredom og cutting 3000 square, rectangular, or 60 degree star parallelograms after cutting long strips at 45 degree cross cuts to make star quilts or postage stamp quilts. If you use a 28 mm round blade you can even make a drunkards path or center circle quilts that require a good sewing machine and a few trade secrets for sewing curves together.

The downside of the time you save is that you do not cut yourself because you have to make sure the roller cuts do not wind up taking your fingertip to the emergency room to have a doctor sew it back onto the finger you just shortchanged. I have probably made a thousand charity quilts using a rotary cutter when piecing fabric shapes to order. Only once did I ever have a serious cutas described above. Fortunately I had strong bones back in my teaching days and knew what to do when cut. I was already putting pressure on the finger that day when I retrieved my first aid kit from under the quikt shop counter. It took a couple of weeks to heal. It taught me not to lose sight of safety issues when teaching others how to make a perfect quilt. I love the craft.

Again happy healing and good luck finding the best cover for the wound. Hydrogen peroxide will keep it free of infection a couple of times a day for your 2cor 3 week healing process. Keep it covered and moderately tight till the clean skin grows back together.
