I just watched a PBS documentary on what the Taliban are doing to women since they took over.

They are basically picking whatever girl they want, usually young teenagers, and find out who their parents are. The Taliban asks to marry their daughter and if they refuse they are beaten or threatened with death until they "agree". The girl then becomes a slave in every sense of the word and lives a life of living hell. This is now the norm in Afghanistan. There's your "legitimate" Taliban government respecting the rights of women.

And the reality is there are plenty of countries in the world that treat women badly.
How many of them do you know about? Or is it just the ones that are convenient to attack Biden?

Simple fact for you, the occupation of Afghanistan was a fuck up right from the beginning. They wanted a puppet who'd take western values to a very, VERY backwards country. They thought they could Americanize Afghanistan.
It would never have worked.

The US should have never gone in in the first place. Did so just to have another base of operations to attack Iran from. Biden realized the attack on Iran was never going to happen.

People living in many nations want comforts Americans currently have. Theirs is limited in many cases. And that makes it fertile for what we see and hear about there. We take it for granted here. And if we get poor, we will see some of that here.

Five Best and Worst Countries for Women’s Rights - The Borgen Project (from 2019)

"2. Afghanistan: Women in Afghanistan face extremely restricted living conditions and a high child-marriage rate. Moreover, a recent Human Rights Watch report found only 37 percent of Afghan women are literate."
So, 37% of women are literate. The US was essentially in charge from 2001 to 2021, 20 years (18 from the time of this report).

42% of their population is 14 or under. 7 million females are 14 or under from 40 million population. There are 18 million women. Nearly half are under 14. 11 million are 0-24 years old. That's 61% of women are aged 24 or under. Now, the 24 year olds were 6 years old when the US took over. Should be enough time for all of them to be literate.

So there are clearly problems in Afghanistan even under US rule. Girls weren't getting an education. There are only 6.6 million literate women. Simple reading skills.

The reason you hear about Afghanistan is because the US went there, invaded it, and saw it as strategically advantageous.

Biden pulls out and all of a sudden Republicans give a shit about women in Afghanistan. You couldn't make this bullshit up.

ENRON needed a gas pipeline across Afghanistan to feed their Dabhol power plant. Bush invaded Afghanistan right after his talks with the Taliban failed.

Yep, it's also another possibility. Neither the invasion of Iran, nor the pipeline happened. So, what was the point in staying?

It's easier to start a war than end one I guess.

Because leaving was always going to be political. Had Trump left Afghanistan, the Democrats would be going on about Women in Afghanistan. The right would be going on about how it was the best decision ever.
