Since California has declared war on oil and is closing refineries, they have to have innovative solutions to provide energy to their grid. Windmills and Solar doesn't even come close to fulfilling the need. So my solution is the creation of massive stationary bike farms where Californians can do a few hours a week of pedaling and do their part to provide the energy lost by closing oil refineries and the new need for energy by AI data centers.

And a side benefit would be healthier citizens and reduced health care costs. Certainly Californians would happily do their part to support the ravenous consumption of grid energy by EV cars and data AI centers, right?

Doubtful that the 4th largest economy in the world would spare even a microsecond for an incel's "bike farm" idea

I've thought that was the solution to power prisons for years. If they want heat, start pedaling.

California has to buy energy from other states. If we decide to shut that spigot off, California dies.

We could hook the kids up to them.

Three refineries have declared they are going inop and the pipline that carries Califonria crude is on the verge of bankruptcy and can no longer afford to lose 2 million dollars a month. Without that pipeline, the refineries in the Bay Area are going to go belly up, and two have already announced they'll be shutting down in 26.

California is about to get into a real world of hurt.

I like that. Prison labor to power prisons, should be cheap, at best, and I certainly have no problem with felon prisoners being put to hard labor all day every day, instead of sitting around cells or exercise areas getting better at crime.

I doubt it will work for California as a whole. Not easy to get people to volunteer for hard labor.

I think prisoners should be put on 'maintenance' rations and reduced to skin and bones. They are less troublesome that way.

I considered that when I built my daughter's commercial gym or "fitness center" as millennials call it.

The average cyclist only generates 100 - 200 watts. And those things are not cheap. Even in a best case scenario it would take a century for the electricity they generate to pay for the cost difference of the equipment at 5 cents/kWh.

But my uncle in California told me he was paying 30 cents/kWh.

Good idea. My only question is, will these people be paid a living wage?

Great idea!

In the movie Soylent Green, the citizens had stationary bikes in their apartments to power their rudimentary home devices.

I don't believe any crypto mining operations will be opening up in CA.
