U.S. and Russia Pursue Partnership in a Head-Spinning Shift in Relations

Senior American and Russian officials agreed on Tuesday to establish teams to work toward ending the war in Ukraine and finding a path toward normalizing relations, in the most extensive negotiations between the two countries in more than three years.

The meeting was the latest striking swerve by the Trump administration in abandoning Western efforts to isolate Russia. Since Mr. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the United States and its Western allies had moved vigorously to punish Russia for causing Europe’s most destructive war in generations.

Mr. Dmitriev, who worked with Mr. Witkoff to broker the release last week of an American schoolteacher jailed in Russia, said he would seek to restart economic cooperation with the United States to “rebuild communication, rebuild trust, rebuild success.”

“U.S. oil majors have had very successful business in Russia,” Mr. Dmitriev said in a brief interview on Tuesday before the talks began, offering an example of how the countries could rebuild business ties. “We believe at some point they will be coming back, because why would they forgo these opportunities that Russia gave them to have access to Russian natural resources?”

Answer: Because some countries in the international community think it's best not help the economy of a country that committed atrocious war crimes.

In anticipation of defenders of all things trump, yes, improved relations with Russia would be a good thing...........under normal circumstances. But if Russia wants economic cooperation the demand from the US should be unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine and assistance with rebuilding it.

Improved relations should be an objective AFTER Putin has negotiated a good faith settlement with Ukraine that benefits both sides

Trump is giving away all his bargaining chips with Putin

Destroying the Western Alliance
Taking Ukraine NATO membership off the table
Conceding Russia keeps captured territory
Offering to remove sanctions

Here's what's going on behind closed doors:

Trump is not a peace maker (we need only look at Israel to see that) but likes to portray that image as a cover for what is typical US policy, exploitation of the resources of other countries.

All trump needed to do to be a peace maker is stop sending weapons to Ukraine (something I fully support), that's a simple executive order, sign it and move on. But Trump is very heavily preoccupied now with Ukraine and we can now see why - colonialism - same thing with Gaza.

Ukraine is undeserving of finding its fate in the self-serving hands piece of shit like trump and a monster like Putin.

^^^Look how frightened the war profiteers get when the grift is threatened.

This tells me Trump is directly over the target, as always.
You must be referring to his golden commode where all his best thoughts end up.

Wait, they are working towards a conclusion to the Ukrainian war without input from the Ukrainians?

There's a well-known phrase in Russia that translates into something like this: "If you want a dead donkey's ears ask Pushkin, other than that - GFY."

Trump will be known as the only president to cave with Russia

Give it a rest. We've sent over a hundred billion to ukraine. It's way past time to quit supporting this garbage. BTW, fdr ceded off eastern europe to russia after WW2.

What Trump had to bargain

Continuing or increasing military aid if Russia does not come to the table
Russia turning back some captured territory to Ukraine
Guaranteeing Ukraine sovereignty with NATO membership if they break it
Europe providing security to Ukraine
Lifting sanctions in return for conceding territory

He gave it all away before negotiations even started

New war will start soon to continue to launder money and payoff for the MIC.

….OR WILL IT?

Once again, you push a fake narrative about Trump. But you have to get paid I guess.

TRUMP= Peace through surrender
First president in years to start no new hostilities. Far more deserving of the Nobel than the last guy who got it in the hope he would actually do something to deserve it.

One has to note that we are not even fighting the Ukraine/Russia war, therefore we cannot surrender anything.
