I keep reading that if you can’t stand on one leg you have dementia. I cannot stand on one leg. In 2001 I got stopped by a cop late at night after leaving a local bar. The cop was fishing for drunks outside the bar and played the odds that I could not pass a breath test. I told him I was not drinking but he said he smelled alcohol and made me do the sidewalk Olympics which required me to stand on one leg. Because I had been riding and racing bicycles for years with multiple crashes my spine was fused, and I had suffered many concussions which made it impossible for me to stand on one leg. I failed the field sobriety test but later got a 0.0 on a breathalyzer. That was twenty-four years ago when I was fifty-four. So, apparently I have had dementia for at least that long.
I just had a doctor’s appointment, and the doctor didn’t mention that I might have dementia even though he did not ask me to stand on one leg. He probably assumed that I am so far gone that it would be waste of time even to bring it up. I just got cataract surgery, and I can read 20-15 on a chart but can’t stand on one leg. My driver’s license was just renewed even though I cannot stand on one leg.
Am I dangerous?
