There was no Jewish state until one was established in 1948, Palestine was the territory under the British mandate, so you could say jews living there at the time were Palestinians like the Arabs.

I agree! In fact, if you look at the "Palestinian" soccer team from the 30's, you will see the Jewish names. And the "Palestine Post" turned in to the Jerusalem Post. The term "Palestinians" was used to refer to Jewish residents for a while. The territory which was called "Palestine" in English was, on mandate era coins et al call the land "The Land of Israel" in Hebrew.
