`11rica. That's why the socialists can fool young people with their propaganda. We need to teach Economics in high schools and make it mandatory like English is.
The problem is education. Economics is not taught in high schools and is an elective option in most universities in America. That's why the socialists can fool young people with their propaganda. We need to teach Economics in high schools and make it mandatory like English is.
I don't think things will turn out the way you believe they would. First, those students would be taught what Socialism really is. Socialism is when the government owns the means of production. Period. It is not welfare, it is not food stamps, it is not Social Security, or Medicare and Medicaid.
I went to high school over 40 years ago. We had an Economics course. Hell, my junior and senior year I won the Economics award. The summer after my junior year I went to Economics camp. Yeah, camp. Paid for by the county. We had class in the morning and we visited businesses in the afternoon. Needless to say, I breezed through college with an Economics degree, actually, more like Econometrics.
But Sealybobo is right. Why some might claim there is no crony capitalism, what is very clear is that there is rampant rent seeking. And there in lies the problem. Modern economics, called neoclassical is SHIT. Any economic text, or theory, published after the 20th century is pure HORSESHIT. If we are going to teach real economics, then Henry George and Adam Smith better be anchoring the curriculum. Truth be told, Xenophon had it right almost 2500 years ago. Real Economics, that is what needs to be taught. Otherwise, all we are doing is indoctrinating the masses. The classic example, "free markets". What is a "free market"? What is it free from? Go ahead, anyone. Because I am doubting anyone knows the damn answer.
