How often do voters actual compare a candidate's voting record if applicable, or otherwise do any independent research on who they vote for? How much of how people vote is influenced by media coverage?

Depends on the person.

Damn, and I didn't think anybody had noticed the little extra bulk under my trousers.

Can't an older gentleman like myself take the necessary measures to avoid those little unwanted accidents without SOMEBODY pointing out my Depends?

I had to vote "a lot" because there was no "it's everything".

We don't elect executives. We buy EPPs -- Executive Person Products, just like we buy cars. And they'd better be built by the Big Two. Sadly that's all we get.

It's been that way as long as we've had commodity fetish culture. Politics doesn't rule; advertising does. If you want the power of the former, you get it through the latter.
