This question is based on the following quotation that I found on Facebook. I cannot say that I am certain that this idea is not exaggerated.

This is just a reminder of how Christianity became so popular today.
“During the reign of Charlemagne, women were impaled on sharpened poles put in the vagina.
Slowly, over days, the pole would travel the length of the body through the organs, causing tremendous pain, simply because a woman was found collecting herbs in the forest. She was labelled a witch.
Their screams could be heard for days as an example to those who would not accept the foreign faith. Christianity became so popular because of sheer terror of what would happen if it wasn't accepted.”

Apparently Pope Pius XII prayed for Emperor Mussolini and for Adolf Hitler but near death experiencer Bryan Melvin saw Hitler still in Purgatory or Hell several decades after Adolf Hitler is supposed to have died.

So how much time off from Purgatory would the prayers of Pope Pius XII obtain for an Emperor like Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne?

Popes Pius XI and Pius XII navigated complex, often tense relationships with Benito Mussolini's Fascist Italy and Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany, characterized by Vatican diplomacy, secret dealings, and public condemnations of Nazism's paganism, with Pius XI opposing Hitler's ideology while Pius XII maintained cautious engagement to protect the Church amid WWII and the Holocaust, even holding secret talks with Hitler's envoy....

For the record Roman Catholicism is one of the churches that got my attention due to the fact that Roman Catholics tend to take near death experience accounts seriously.

I believe that Pope Pius XII was much like a monarch over a nation at that time in history but I believe that Pope Leo has a massive "John the Baptist" sort of calling on his life and on his ministry. Pope Francis was the last Pope to be a mere political leader just as a one thousand or so year old Roman Catholic prophecy explained and predicted.

It is a possibility that Hell and Purgatory are human inventions intended to instill fear and thus grow membership in a particular religion. Just floating that as a possibility.

In a way it is a valid point that humans, especially Adam and Eve and their grandchildren before the Flood played a role in the way that Purgatory or Hell works.

15. What about

There is a place called “the Death Shadowed Valley,” where some souls may choose to go to if they feel too afraid, guilty or shameful to approach heaven or God. This is an in-between place or dimension that separates souls from this world and the next. …And as I have discussed before … being caught in this type of situation is a very difficult process to endure and can cause problems for both the living and the dead. However each of us has the ability to call out to God or to Christ … and immediately … we will be taken home to heaven. Or we (the living) can pray and call out to God to send his angels to come and take others home. It is important for us to understand that we each send ourselves to the places our soul believes it most belongs. We do that now here on planet Earth. Those stuck in addiction, lust, bitterness and hate — these are the ones truly in hell. But the moment we choose love, we can get ourselves out. God never sends us anywhere we do not wish to stay. We have totally misunderstood the concept of hell on this planet.

I do know of a place in the deep regions of the Realm where I saw great caverns of electrical blue fire. However, I understood that this place was for the purpose of loving purification. God would never send his precious creatures to a place to be burned or harmed. It is completely contrary to our Creator’s nature.

"God would never send his precious creatures to a place to be burned or harmed. It is completely contrary to our Creator’s nature."

I believe that is true. However there are billions of deeply religious people who reject this statement and believe that eternal punishment for 'damned' souls absolutely exists.

Yes... and there is also a human tendency to allow our extreme guilt or shame to give us the idea that only a Hell or Purgatory type of afterlife is appropriate for what we have done while alive and human.

3. A Rescue from Hell by Jesus Christ

Now I didn’t know if I was even in the world. But I did know that I was here. I was real, all my senses worked too painfully well. I didn’t know how I had arrived here. There was no direction to follow even if I had been physically able to move. The agony that I had suffered during the day was nothing compared to what I was feeling now. I knew then that this was the absolute end of my existence, and it was more horrible than anything I could possibly have imagined.

Then a most unusual thing happened. I heard very clearly, once again in my own voice, something that I had learned in nursery Sunday School. It was the little song, “Jesus loves me, yes I know …” and it kept repeating. I don’t know why, but all of a sudden I wanted to believe that. Not having anything left, I wanted to cling to that thought. And I, inside, screamed, “Jesus, please save me.” That thought was screamed with every ounce of strength and feeling left in me. When I did that, I saw, off in the darkness somewhere, the tiniest little star. Not knowing what it was, I presumed it must be a comet or a meteor, because it was moving rapidly. Then I realized it was coming toward me. It was getting very bright, rapidly. When the light came near, its radiance spilled over me, and I just rose up – not with my effort – I just lifted up. Then I saw – and I saw this very plainly – I saw all my wounds, all my tears, all my brokenness, melt away. And I became whole in this radiance. What I did was to cry uncontrollably. I was crying, not out of sadness, but because I was feeling things that I had never felt before in my life. Another thing happened. Suddenly I knew a whole bunch of things. I knew things … I knew that this light, this radiance, knew me. I don’t know how to explain to you that I knew it knew me, I just did. As a matter of fact, I understood that it knew me better than my mother or father did. The luminous entity that embraced me knew me intimately and began to communicate a tremendous sense of knowledge. I knew that he knew everything about me and I was being unconditionally loved and accepted.
...
...
We started going faster and faster, out of the darkness. Embraced by the light, feeling wonderful and crying, I saw off in the distance something that looked like the picture of a galaxy, except that it was larger and there were more stars than I had seen on Earth. There was a great center of brilliance. In the center there was an enormously bright concentration. Outside the center countless millions of spheres of light were flying about entering and leaving what was a great being-ness at the center. It was off in the distance. Then I … I didn’t say it, I thought it. I said, “Put me back.”

What I meant by telling the light to put me back, was to put me back into the pit. I was so ashamed of who I was, and what I had been all of my life, that all I wanted to do was hide in the darkness. I didn’t want to go toward the light anymore – I did; yet I didn’t. How many times in my life had I denied and scoffed at the reality before me, and how many thousands of times had I used it as a curse. What incredible intellectual arrogance to use the name as an insult. I was afraid to go closer. I was also aware that the incredible intensity of the emanations might disintegrate what I still experienced as my intact physical body. The being who was supporting me, my friend, was aware of my fear and reluctance and shame. For the first time he spoke to my mind in a male voice and told me that if I was uncomfortable we didn’t have to go closer. So we stopped where we were, still countless miles away from the Great being. For the first time, my friend, and I will refer to him in that context hereafter, said to me, “You belong here.”

Fear often fails--even backfires as a long-term motivator. Another example: Fear tactics often fail in keeping young people away from drugs and alcohol.

The great motivator of most faith/religion is a way of living that promotes joy and personal growth.

I can't tell you how many Christians have used the threat of Hell (fear) to convince me to be a Christian essentially as an "insurance policy".

I am wondering: Is that the introductory approach or the court of last resort?

Same here.... but it really backfired and I went off into a Soul Sleep teaching branch of Christianity, [The Worldwide Church of God].

True. In every endeavor, the greatest champions are motivated by positive desire rather than negative consequences.

In every earthly endeavor, bad behavior results in negative consequences. Why would the after life be different? There is the concept of justice. Every penny has to be paid. Universal equilibrium demands it.

Wow!

Former ATheist and near death experiencer Howard Storm felt that the "Purgatory" or "Hell" realm that he saw at the first part of his brush with death was such a horrible place, due to the way that the former humans there thought and behaved. EAch one of them was competing and attempting to become the biggest and baddest and toughest lost soul there. Howard Storm felt that these insane beings actually had the possibility of making better choices right there in front of them. His own case is proof that his idea is correct. What could have been an eternal "hell" became something like a "Purgatory" due to Howard Storm being willing to try his best to PRAY!

Exactly what happened was … and I’m not going to try and explain this. From inside of me I felt a voice, my voice, say, “Pray to God.” My mind responded to that, “I don’t pray. I don’t know how to pray.” This is a guy lying on the ground in the darkness surrounded by what appeared to be dozens if not hundreds and hundreds of vicious creatures who had just torn him up. The situation seemed utterly hopeless, and I seemed beyond any possible help whether I believed in God or not. The voice again told me to pray to God. It was a dilemma since I didn’t know how. The voice told me a third time to pray to God. I started saying things like, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want … God bless America” and anything else that seemed to have a religious connotation. And these people went into a frenzy, as if I had thrown boiling oil all over them. They began yelling and screaming at me, telling me to quit, that there was no God, and no one could hear me. While they screamed and yelled obscenities, they also began backing away from me as if I were poison. As they were retreating, they became more rabid, cursing and screaming that what I was saying was worthless and that I was a coward. I screamed back at them, “Our Father who art in heaven,” and similar ideas. This continued for some time until, suddenly, I was aware that they had left. It was dark, and I was alone yelling things that sounded churchy. It was pleasing to me that these churchy sayings had such an effect on those awful beings.

Lying there for a long time, I was in such a state of hopelessness, and blackness, and despair, that I had no way of measuring how long it was. I was just lying there in an unknown place all torn and ripped. And I had no strength; it was all gone. It seemed as if I were sort of fading out, that any effort on my part would expend the last energy I had. My conscious sense was that I was perishing, or just sinking into the darkness.

Infinite punishment for finite 'bad behavior' is not justice at all. Or not even bad behavior, just worshipping the wrong God. The concept of Hell in my opinion came from the imaginations of humans, not from "universal equilibrium".

Or could it be that former Covering Cherub Helel feels that he and his angels who followed him are being punished for infinite time....... [even if the Book of Enoch states clearly that the judgment of humans will be done over 7000 years and that the Watchers and their children will be judged over 10000 years], but if Satan feels that his punishment is infinite and eternal......... then he attempts to lure humans into thinking that they are being punished in the way that Satan thinks that he is being punished?

Basically that is how Ego tends to operate.

2. Evil does not exist – only ignorance

Mellen-Thomas Benedict

Some beliefs hold to a dualistic system of good versus evil. It is the belief that there is only one force of goodness (God) and only one force of badness (Satan). In between are humans who are little more than pawns on a big chessboard for these two equally opposing forces to battle over. Throughout history, this belief system has been held by millions and millions of people. But NDE testimonies are giving us much better insights into whether such theological and philosophical concepts are actually valid. NDE testimonies offer us a much more realistic and logical solution to the classical paradox concerning the “problem of evil.” What the religious traditions of the world perceive to be “sins,” NDE testimonies reveal to be “mistakes” which God allows humans to make for the purposes of their higher education and spiritual evolution. What these religious traditions perceive to be “evil,” NDE testimonies reveal to be “ignorance.” What humans perceive as “the devil made me do it,” NDE testimony reveals to be “our own ego and negative thought process.” The following NDE insights reveal the true nature of “Satan”.

Howard Storm was given the following insights from beings of light after his life review when he was fearful of returning to Earth life and afraid he would make mistakes again: “Mistakes are an acceptable part of being human. We are here to make all the mistakes we want because it is through our mistakes that we learn. As long as we try to do what we know to be right, we will be on the right path. If we make a mistake, we should fully recognize it as a mistake, then put it behind us and simply try not to make the same mistake again. The important thing is to try our best, keep our standards of goodness and truth, and not compromise them to win people’s approval. God loves us just the way we are, mistakes and all. When we make a mistake, we should ask for forgiveness. After that, it would be an insult if we don’t accept that we are forgiven. We shouldn’t continue going around with a sense of guilt, and we should try not to repeat our mistakes. We should learn from our mistakes. God wants us to do what we want to do. That means making choices – and there isn’t necessarily any right choice. There are a spectrum of possibilities, and we should make the best choice from those possibilities. If we do that, we will receive help from the Other Side.” (Howard Storm)

“There really is no sin as it is known in the world. The only thing that has any meaning in the spirit world is what we think. The very core of our being is perfect love and light.” (Jayne Smith)

Worshipping the “wrong God”doesn’t necessarily doom one to Hell according to my Catholic Church.

That is absolutely true. Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Occultists and Christians of every denomination are having near death experiences and are being sent back with surprisingly similar messages in so many ways. Because of NDE accounts I did think seriously about becoming either Roman Catholic or perhaps Latter day Saint, [these are two of the largest Christian Churches that I know of that do not laugh at near death experience accounts but instead tend to research them like the Bereans did the teachings of Paul].

The Bereans (Acts 17:10-15) were Jews in Berea commended for "noble" character because they eagerly received Paul's message about Jesus, yet daily examined the Old Testament scriptures to verify his teachings. Their diligent study led many to believe, contrasting with the hostility Paul faced in Thessalonica.

Key Aspects of the Bereans, Paul, and Jesus:
  • Paul’s Preaching: After leaving Thessalonica, Paul and Silas visited the synagogue in Berea to proclaim Jesus as the promised Messiah.
  • The Berean Response: Rather than blindly accepting or rejecting the message, the Bereans used the Scriptures as the final authority to test Paul's claims.
  • Result: This thorough examination led to belief in Jesus for many Jews and prominent Greek men and women.
  • Legacy: The term "Berean" has come to represent a person who studies the Bible diligently to ensure their faith aligns with scripture

The inconsistency of who does or does not go to Hell even amongst the various Christian sects is another reason to doubt or reject the concept of Hell. For example my dear departed Grandmother was a devout Baptist and her Church said Catholics were going to Hell because they worshipped Mary who was a false God.

Near death experiencer Cody Leatherbury saw part of hell....
but what he saw has helped him to become an extremely zealous and on fire Christian since his experience.

He saw aspects of hell that you will find to be extremely interesting if you have the time to get into this account.

But can a Christian leader fall into a temptation that is throw to them by Satan?

Did Cephas - Peter fall into sin even after the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecost?

The Evil Army

I saw a demonic army so large that it stretched as far as I could see. It was separated into divisions, with each carrying a different banner. The foremost and most powerful divisions were Pride, Self righteousness, Respectability, Selfish Ambition, and Unrighteous Judgment, but the largest of all was Jealousy. The leader of this vast army was the Accuser of the Brethren himself. I knew that there were many more evil divisions beyond my scope of vision, but these were the vanguard of this terrible horde from hell that was now being released against the church.

The weapons carried by this horde had names on them: the swords were named Intimidation; the spears were named Treachery; and their arrows were named Accusations, Gossip, Slander and Faultfinding. Scouts and smaller companies of demons with such names as Rejection, Bitterness, Impatience, Un-forgiveness and Lust were sent in advance of this army to prepare for the main attack. I knew in my heart that the church had never faced anything like this before.

The main assignment of this army was to cause division. It was sent to attack every level of relationship-churches with each other, congregations with their pastors, husbands and wives, children and parents, and even children with each other. The scouts were sent to locate the openings in churches, families or individuals that rejection, bitterness, lust, etc., could exploit and make a larger breech for the divisions that were coming.

The most shocking part of this vision was that this horde was not riding on horses, but on Christians! Most of them were well-dressed, respectable, and had the appearance of being refined and educated. These were Christians who had opened themselves to the powers of darkness to such a degree that the enemy could use them and they would think that they were being used by God. The Accuser knows that a house divided cannot stand, and this army represented his ultimate attempt to bring such complete division to the church that she would completely fall from grace.
