Nearly half of Americans at least somewhat agree with the statement, “I am living paycheck to paycheck,” as of the third quarter of 2024. The share shrank slightly between the second and third quarters of this year, but in 2022, less than 40% of Americans felt this way, Bank of America reports.

Importantly, how each respondent defines living paycheck to paycheck may vary. So, for the purposes of the study, Bank of America set a threshold — households spending at least 90% of their income on necessities could be considered living paycheck to paycheck.

By that measure, around 30% of American households are living paycheck to paycheck, according to Bank of America’s internal data. Further, 26% of households spend 95% or more of their income on necessities, the bank reports.

After all bills and expenses are paid, how much are you left with the end of the month? What do you do with that money? Reward and treat yourself or invest? I have about 50-200 at the end of every month, as I try to live frugal I invest in a high interest savings account and would like to invest in stocks too but I have little knowledge and not much free time to study.

Do NOT live paycheck to paycheck and never have. We have always worked and lived below our means. Paid our credit cards off every month and bought our cars with cash. Retired now and living on our income, not our savings.

LOL.....Welcome to my 20s and 30s.

I suspect most people in that age group do.

Then again, I had a mortgage and was raising a family.

My wake-up call was when I finished paying the bills and I had $12.00 left over. I started looking for a better paying job and within a year I had one with DuPont.

Extra money was overtime, fur sales from trapping, and side gigs here and there like flea marketing.

I lead a somewhat unconventional lifestyle out in God's country

My 'worth' is measured best with my connection to nature ,than any fiscal accounting

When wages are as bad as they are, how do we expect people to save?
