How is that different than a person's reputation score on mylife dot com?
You get shot if you disagree.
Perhaps, but don't pretend we don't have our own versions---credit ratings, criminal background, sex offender lists.
It's true, we do have too much of that crap already. But a reputation score on "mylife dot com" has no legal bearing. If you, or anyone else chooses to - they can ignore it without criminal repercussions.
I was being sarcastic about mylife.com. it is far more pervasive and has real world consequences what we do have and it will just get worse thanks to technology. MyLife just does in the open what facebook and google do behind closed doors--compile individual information and offers it for sell to anyone wanting to buy it. In addition to the stuff mentioned, insurance companies have been doing it for years as well--health records, driving records, etc etc etc.
The big difference is China is using it to prevent people from traveling, allowing their kids to go to better schools and even preventing you from working...
It is true we have all the information at our fingertips but China is using it as a weapon against their population...
Imagine if we had that system here and how many Americand would not be allow to work and travel?
