How easy would it be for a drone with a focused laser to start an urban fire?

Drones nowadays, especially military ones can carry an impressive array of deadly weaponry. Even if not military there are high impact green lasers available to anyone that can start a fire from a hundred feet away. I watched a tire get flattened from 20 yards once by a hand held green laser. I was pretty shocked.....

Makes me wonder if that couldn't be done almost anywhere. A hobby drone with a green laser tied to it could hover in place long enough to do the trick I think. This is a rather disquieting thought.

Unnecessary. All that was required was some illegal aliens given a little blowtorch. Did democrats pay them for this political service?

Yeah....amazing how all of that just went away huh? Nothing to see here folks.....maybe Paco would have given up the people who let him loose to do it.

Hate to break the news to ya, but all you need is a couple of rocks to rub together.

Starting fires is ridiculously easy.

Why laser?

Just get a cheap hobby drone and have it fly a mile into the forest and drop incendiary packages

Fires are so easy to start, you don't even need humans to initiate them

Geez....even sunlight reflected off of a modern weather window into a dry grass patch...

Many fires over a wide area. Not an accident. At the height of the flames plans were submitted for mixed use apartment complexes using land already owned. So, how is the state planning on getting the land where someone's home once stood? Make it impossible to rebuild. Make the land worthless.

Gads this smells worse than last week's delta smelt.

Decades ago when in 6th grade my buddy and I were playing with matches in a field and started a pretty good one. We ran to his house and told his mom to call the fire department. By the time they arrived the neighbors beat it down with blankets.
We blamed it on Hippies that were smoking. Who then ran off.
They must have bought it, because it wasn't looked into more.

Kinda seems like the more complicated and expensive way to flick a lighter.

Not sure what you mean by a "focused" laser, but yes, it would be very easy for a military-class drone to carry an IR laser capable of igniting dry brush.

Hell, if you want to spend $300 on a flashlight, they make one that held up close will set crumpled paper on fire.

Pretty sure that most fires involve the Bic lighter.

We need background checks for purchasing lighters.

I "flick my Bic" every evening to start the fire in my fireplace. :)

I saw a tire get flattened by a green laser. From about sixty feet. Took all of 3 minutes.
I was stunned. It was a pretty hefty laser about as heavy as a standard police style six battery flashlight/billy club.... Still it was an eye opener.
