That sad thing is that, left or right, politicians who seek to divide Americans against ourselves are the true enemies of our Republic and our Constitution. The sheeple who follow them and ramp up the hate against other Americans are only part of the problem.

American progress seems to follow a pattern of two steps forward and one step back over a multi-decade cycle. I think we're in the "one step back" phase and that things will turn around again after Trump leaves office.
