How do I turn off automated messages for giving out rep?

How do I turn off automated messages? When I give people "rep", my account sends out an announcement. Is there a way for me to turn this off or is it automatic?

Quick Links-Edit Options will allow you to turn off your own ability to get a PM notification when you receive Rep. Other people can do the same. BUT, if they have it turned on to get a PM when they get rep, you can't stop that.

It is automatic, if the recipients rep notification is turned on.
