How did the "Friends" afford such a nice apartment in downtown Manhattan?

And why did Ross and Rachel end up together when they obviously weren't compatible?

Rent control.

It was even referenced in one of the scripts.

The show derived its drama by keeping Ross and Rachel apart, even after they married each other in Las Vegas, even after they had a baby together. After a while, it was absurd.

All six characters were white and straight. None of them were handicapped.

They only showed the living room.

The Meth lab was off camera.

There was one lesbian, the unfaithful wife who left Ross.

The apartment was in a constant construction zone so that probably kept the rent down. The view outside her kitchen window was constantly changing so clearly a lot of work was going on next door.

I believe, however, they did an episode on how they came to live there. IIRC Fat Monica inherited the rent-controlled lease from her grandmother.

They were all really high class hookers or gigolos. You didn't get that?
You thought when Ross was going off doing "dinosaurs", it was actual freaking dinosaurs? Hell no, he was servicing the retirement homes. "Oh Ross, Mr Miller with Alzheimers requested his weekly BJ with swallow, $1000 okay with you?"

They must have forgotten to mention that part, but it would explain the expensive apartment and the clothes, which were always the latest fashion.

Well, you're hardly going to gain popular support in the US by being different....

Just insinuate at it, but don't make it obvious.

Because it was fictional and didn't matter. Dragging too much of reality into something not real is a exercise in futility and ruins the fun of just watching a show.

It's like I have to ignore the fact that in Seinfeld Jerry's apartment is a physical impossibility and ignores reality.

Which part?

If you have seen the show enough your familiar with the hallway outside of Jerry's apartment and know that it's a flat wall that runs right up his door parallel with his apartment, now think of the layout of his apartment. The kitchen is just to the left of his door and goes in 6 or 8 feet into where the hall should be. That would mean his entire kitchen would have to be in the hall, but it isn't.

But I know the hall and his apartment are 2 separate sets but in reality it couldn't exist.

You are correct. I never noticed that.
I was always too bothered by his speakers with grills off (pet peeve of mine).

Ha, I never noticed that. But yeah I find that irritating for some reason as well. It's odd, that normally is something I notice. I guess I was always more occupied trying to see which vhs tapes he had on his shelf to notice.
