1. If the GOP of today were the GOP of our fathers and grandfathers, all of us would be better off. The GOP of old had great liberals in it's ranks. Most all the great past achievements the GOP crows about today were liberal ideas made policy and law.

2) Over the past 3 or 4 decades the conservatives in the GOP have chased out most every liberal in it's midst. They no longer have a voice representing the people. They have a voice representing the conservative fringe.

3) Today the conservative Tea Party movement is looking to finish the job started in seriousness under the reign of Ronald Reagan, the great communicator who rarely kept a campaign promise.


The GOP is not longer great or grand.

Democrats did not hijack the term 'liberal' There have historically been liberals in both major parties. It was the GOP who started equating liberalism with the Democratic party. This was done in their pursuit of ideological purity (conservatism) in the GOP ranks.

The entire time I was growing up all the way until now Liberal=Democrat in the media. Born in '73 so if it was all Reagan's fault he did one hell of a job.

The media does not dictate things and neither do headlines. You cannot hide behind 'the media said' and have a conversation. Reagan was immensely popular and starting the the early/mid seventies the right started a concerted effort to manipulate the media with a consistent message. A perfect storm. After Reagan the right used liberal to demonize opponents often at the expense of truth and honor. Think : Newt Gingrich as a back bencher.

He compromised with Tip Oneal to get his tax cuts and military spending. That part of it was a spending disaster no question about it. It was a spending bonanza. The reason Reagan did this was that the Dems controlled Congress (the guys who make the budget) and he had almost no choice but to veto and be overridden. In addition he thought it was worth the deficits to fight the Soviet Union. To see the difference between a President who want to cut with and without his party in power I refer you to the spending explosion in '06 when Bush lost his majority. Not that Bush ever wanted to cut spending.

Congress itself will never ever want to cut spending, either party. If it is even possible to do so it would have to be with a President that wanted to cut and an adamant, aware populace that make it known they were serious about spending cuts. That is why I see the Tea Party as our last best hope.

The definition he posted just shows how right I was about the media changing the definition of words. I can show a much closer resemblance to the Nazi party for the progressives than anyone can make for the Tea Party. That was the point I was trying to make.
