House turns out lights on Barton's bulb bill - The Hill's E2-Wire

The House rejected a bill Tuesday aimed at repealing a slew of light bulb efficiency standards that conservatives have targeted as an egregious example of federal overreach.

The Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) Act, sponsored by Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), failed on a 233-193 vote, with a two-thirds majority needed for passage.

The vote fell mostly along party lines, but five Democrats voted in favor of the bill and 10 Republicans voted against the bill. One Republican voted "present."

So the Republicans wasted all their time on this issue, just to fail in the part of Congress they have a large majority of.

I support the move to CFL's because it makes sense on several levels.
Not the least of which is that it saves the electric generation industry hundreds billions in upgrades and new power plants, which keeps electricity cheaper.

The question to ask now is this: Have Republicans taken up legislation to allow corporations that own canneries to put is much damn salt as they want in canned food? Or better yet, is there a constitutional amendment pending that would make the seasoning of food a constitutional right?

First, why on earth did they need a two thirds majority for passing? They are just repealing a law. Yeah, they would probably get vetoed by the President and need it to override the veto, but as of right now why wouldn't they merely have to have majority support as all laws are since the law needs to be passed before the President can exercise his descretion to veto it.

Second, why on earth are you people happy that the Federal Government is telling you what kind of light bulb you can buy? Do you have no self respect and desire for liberty anymore?

I think we have been as passionate about the TSA. As for the Patriot act, I still haven't seen a fair argument of why we can't do to terrorists what we already do to mobsters.

Off brand 40 watt bulbs to start at $10 each.

I think we have been as passionate about the TSA. As for the Patriot act, I still haven't seen a fair argument of why we can't do to terrorists what we already do to mobsters.
