I actually have a theory.

Gaetz isn't his real pick, but a delaying tactic.

No one seriously think that he'll be confirmed, but the process will likely take months. That will give Trump time to get a real candidate, one that will actually uphold the law and tell the left, when they complain, to STFUASD.
