I can see making a profit by interest rates, but 250-350% is a little steep and unnecessary..Just like the quick loans for business...

These interest rates are utterly ridiculous and predatory, I'd have these lending ***** perp walked to prison, that they have intentionally circumvented the law that was passed to curb this crap pisses me off. ALSO lets address the root cause of why our troops have to rely on this type of borrowing in the first place.

The 1981 law that REAGAN SIGNED is the one that was accused of listing ketchup as a vegetable. IF the government is going to limit interest rates, it must be across the board. In reality, it's none of their damned business.

What IS criminal is the bait and switch by credit card companies where a rate of 6% is offered, then with a payment late by one day they jack it up to 36% - now THAT is loan sharking. But if you take a loan for 36% - that's what you agreed to.

The Dems started the worse lending practice ever with the Community Reinvestment Act that launched the plan that eventually led to the financial crisis.

Some politicians figure that people should make up their own minds. Personally, I think it's stupid to borrow money from those high interest places. I also know people who went there because they weren't able to get money elsewhere and they were in a real bind. Usually, it's okay if you can pay the money back right away and it's always a bad idea to borrow money from any institution if you can't pay it back in a timely manner.

When it comes to lenders, either pass a law to make them illegal or allow people to make their own choices.

Funny that government isn't exactly friendly when you owe them money. Maybe some people get desperate and go to those loan sharks because if they can't pay property taxes, they could lose their homes. My neighbor lost her home because she was a couple years behind in property taxes. She had lost her job and went through some hard times. By the time she was back on her feet, she had a lot of debt piled up. She lost a $90,000 home over several thousand in taxes. There was a tax sale and some person paid the taxes. She had two years to repay, in cash, with interest or the house became property of the person who paid taxes. She couldn't do it because she was already stretching things to pay current taxes, which had gone up considerably. She still owed the bank for the mortgage even though she lost the house. Isn't it wonderful how government looks out for the little guy?

She would have been better off owing a loan shark at high interest. At least she'd still have her house.
