No, it wasn't a HLS Bring Weapons to Work Day, or let's play I'm a Terrorist, or What Do You Have in Your Serial Killer Rape Kit Day, either. Interestingly, the employee has not been held or apparently even being watched.
Department of Homeland Security employee is being investigated by federal prosecutors after casually walking into the DHS’ Washington headquarters with an infrared camera, pepper spray, handcuffs, a knife, and a gun.
“Jonathan Wienke, and analyst in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, allegedly carried the weapons into the building on the morning of June 9,” reports CBS News. “Security officers found a folding knife with a 3-inch blade, two hand-held radios, pepper spray, an infrared camera and a set of handcuffs, among other items...”
Wienke was found with the weapons when security guards decided to conduct a random screening at the door. After the guards took away his knife and pepper spray, Wienke was allowed to return to his cubicle. There, Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Eric Mann patted him down and found a five-shot revolver loaded with .22-caliber hollow-point rounds in his pants.
Shockingly, Wienke is a free man at the moment. Federal authorities have not detained him yet, but they searched his personal belongings. Prosecutors are still working on building a case.
According to court documents, the government has probable cause to believe that the DHS employee "was conspiring with another to commit workplace violence, and more particularly may have
have been conspiring or planning to commit violence against senior DHS officials in the building."
