This is available on youtube for free. Paul Newman plays the coolest apache on two legs despite not being an apache.
I suppose its a testament to Newmans charisma that he can carry this off. Especially when you set it aside a previous performance as Butch Cassidy.
In truth the performance is more akin to Hud another great performance.
Its basically a reworking of Stagecoach for the modern era. All the passengers are pretty horrible in this one. It also portrays the Apaches as the victims of greedy white men.
Its free to watch and a bloody good western.
Ive just noticed that it was based on an Elmore Leonard novel and directed by Martin Ritt who I think was blacklisted back in the day.
