Never thought this day would come!
Mallory and Irvine disappeared on Everest 100 years ago, leaving the world wondering if they had become the first to summit.
George Mallory's body was found preserved in the ice 75 years later in '99. I figured Irvine was buried deeper in the glacier, and would never reappear, but I'll be damned he's been found. They'll have to run DNA but it's just a formality now. They were the period correct hobnail boots, and his initials on his sock.
Now, it will be incredible if the camera is still in his vest. Kodak labs have said over the years that it's possible the film might still be able to be developed if it's found preserved in the ice. The story is, if they made it to the top, they would take pictures, and George was going to leave a photo of his wife on the summit. In '99 when they found George, the photo was not on him.
They were last seen from below through a scope confronting the 'Second Step' of the summit pyramid.
What an incredible story it would be if a photo proves they were first, 29 years before Hillary!
