A you tube video tonight was shown of a protest in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village, in New York City, and it was loud, and violent, and vicious.
It all started with a protester group of mixed Iranians & Americans holding a vigil for the deceased Ayatollah Kahameni, the ex-Iranian Supreme leader who was killed by Israeli & American airstrikes. The vigil, as they call it, was also for his son, who was supposed to b the new IRGC leader but was injured in the airstrikes, got a leg amputated, and is reportedly in a coma.
The protesters were protesting against Trump & Netenyahu, and the war against Iran's IRGC Islamic fundamentalist regime, as well as praising that regime. Scores of police were on the scene LUCKILY.
A large mob of counterprotesters showed up. These were a mixture of Iranian immigrants who had fled from the IRGC regime and hated it, and native-born New Yorkers who have become furious about how the Muslim Mayor Mamdani has been broadcasting loud Muslim calls to prayer on outdoor loudspeakers around the city, and also large groups of Muslims taking over part of Times Square to pray in the street. Some New York women have reportedly been harrassed by Muslims for not wearing hijabs on their heads, and for eating in restaurants during Ramadan.
The counterprotesters intitially just hollered at the protesters telling them "You don't know what you're talking about". Voices on both sides got louder and then the counterprotesters (some carrying weapons) charged at the vigil holders and attacked them. The police intervened, and broke up the fighting, literally saving the lives of the pro-IRGC protesters, as according to one police sergeant > they would have been killed if we hadn't been there.
Some of the American & Iranian refugee counterprotesters had billy clubs shaped like baseball bats, one guy had a blackjack (confiscated by the cops), 2 guys were wearing brass knuckles, and another guy had some kind of chain thing.
I grew up in New York City, and with the severely high population density, I know New Yorkers were never inclined to be meek, but this was on the border of being a bloodbath massacre. I really have the feeling that this is just the beginning, as Muslims are a very pushy bunch, and New Yorkers are not adverse to going wild when they have a mind to. Some arrests were made, and I dont think anybody was killed (by some sheer miracle).
