Used to play field-hockey in the 70'ies - those days your leg broke and not the stick, I guess the same issue applies to ice-hockey.

my school had a field hockey team, I dated the co-captain at the time
cute girls, cute plaid skirts with what I called a lollipop stick smacking a ball around

those were fun times

hockey players rarely break their legs unless they crash into the end board at an odd angle at full speed
