Without going deep into the origins, the history of Austria can begin from the country of Austrasia, the kingdom of the Merovingians. This country was also called Austria. I think that the Merovingians were not Germans / Francs, but Austrians, and Austria at that time stretched from eastern Europe to Spain.
Austrasian art was pre-Roman, it had nothing to do with Germanic Gothic. Modern Austria is a remnant of that state. The language of modern Austrians is not native to them, it is the result of Germanization.
