Heavy Metal (1981) A Classic

It has not aged well. The sequel is unwatchable. The magazine it was based on was kick-ass. A comic book with spaceships and titties? Teenage me was hooked.

Anyone else remember the midnight showings?

I heard Black Sabbath's Iron Man yesterday on the ski lift. Couldn't believe it--I don't know when the last time I heard that was. Brought back some great memories. I remember calling the local AM rock station in 1972 and they refused to play it--too radical. LOL

The memory I most associate with that song is the smell of weed.

It took forever for the soundtrack to be released, which was really good. Had the Royal Philharmonic in it.
There were so many artists involved, it took years to get all the licensing worked out. It took a long time for the movie to be released on VHS, too.

Saw it in college at a midnight showing. The images projected through all the weed smoke were pretty.
The midnight movies got pretty wild at my local theater. Snuck in weed and booze and no one cared.
What a blast.
Saw all the rock movies.

There is a new 4k restoration scan of heavy metal and heavy metal 2000 as a set. I put a order in for mine on Amazon.

It also has a new retrospective bonus feature on it which should be cool.

Heavy metal 2000 is inferior to the original but it's cool they included it so you get both movies.
