Where you get confused is thinking the Palestinians are "Arabs" because they speak Arabic. They were the descendants of the original inhabitants, who had converted first to Christianity under the Romans and than Islam under the various Caliphates. So they just adopted what was in style.

They didn't even speak Hebrew in Jesus' time, they spoke Aramaic, Greek, and Latin. Then when the Muslims took over, they adopted Arab.
