My sister and mother live in the VillagesI totally agree with the impulse, but will only spend February down there. I finally talked my wife out of insisting on a stay on the Gulf Coast, and we will go to The Villages and hope for the best.
Rents on the Coast have gotten absurd, and all the "snow birds" (like us) make life tedious.
If I lived in Maine, I would surely extend my southern vacation by a couple months.
My parents live in a gated community about 35 miles north of the Villages...1 acre lots, and it is quite a bit, quieter with lots of wildlife....likely half of which my sister feeds...!My sister and mother live in the Villages
Quite an experience when I visit

My parents and sister live doors down from each other, we get to stay with them for free...so the high rents there won't hit us! Thank God!I totally agree with the impulse, but will only spend February down there. Yes, relatively close...about 30 to 40 miles to the airport....we are in the woods, on the coast.... Bangor is the only big city, 30,000 people up here, that has the bigger stores!Do you live near Bangor?

My dad was stationed at Dow AFB in 1965. I believe the base closed in 1968.Yes, relatively close...about 30 to 40 miles to the airport....we are in the woods, on the coast.... Bangor is the only big city, 30,000 people up here, that has the bigger stores!
My parents community turned out to be a real gem! My parents lived in West Pam Beach, my dad was in the Ocala region for something, and decided to look around outside of the city...this was in 1997 and he stumbled upon this new development, most all lots were not sold, and he called a realtor about some of the lots he thought were great, and paid that day, less than 10k each for them, without even calling mom or Pat to tell them....they both were pissed at him....until he brought them to the lots and community. It's filled now, just a few lots left, going for $60k now!!! I wish he had bought me and Matt a lot back then! He built a 4 bdrm 3 bath Monster of a home on it for less than $100k back then! The community is working class with seniors mixed....nice area, best investment of dad's life, probably.... In their late 80s they sold the big home and bought a lot across the street and built a downsized home half the size of their first home for their old age...they are NOW in their 90s....my sister's home is now about 8 homes away from their new one!Villages…
Imagine living somewhere for the rest of your life where EVERYONE is old
Supermarket…Old
Movie Theater…..Old
Restaurant…Old
Dr Office…Old
Walk down the street….Old
My mother gave me her Handicapped Permit while I drove her around. Seems everyone in the Villages has a handicapped permit.
Does you no good
My father was stationed there also, when he first joined before he married mom....My dad was stationed at Dow AFB in 1965. I believe the base closed in 1968.

At 92, my father is still driving....Watch out for those crazy Florida drivers. They’re dangerous.
