It's not about race. It's about standard of living. Most Americans (of any race) have a perspective that is more demanding than that of poor immigrants. A poor immigrant won't demand as much in pay or in rights as someone used to living in a First World country. So, if you bring in enough people from a perspective with lower expectations, you can more easily push statism on the people. If said people become the majority and get citizenship, then you can even get a lot of them to vote in favor of granting government more power.

You misunderstand my stance on this. I'm aware that many immigrants are hard workers. I'd love to have them come here and have our laziest citizens sent to their home countries.

My point was that there's another side to this arrangement. If your cultural perspective is one where you aren't accustomed to having a better life or better rights, you won't demand as much in terms of keeping the government out of your life. A lot of poor countries have very oppressive governments and very limited rights. That difference in perspective lowers expectations, whether consciously or subconsciously.
