The Constitution clearly states that Congress is only supposed to be paid by US Treasury

It took time, but the vast majority of both Parties have now found a way to get essentially what is a commission on Federal spending

It’s one of the 2 main reasons why we’re $37T in debt with annual Trillion deficits and interest payments, unending wars being the other driver

The 1978 (unintentionally ironic) Ethics in Government Act put a cap on extracurricular earrings. Left with policing themselves, 98% of our Congress laughs at these limits.

I don’t believe that the issue has ever been litigated

But what should be done to correct this?

They need a law that says that Congress either gets a pay increase for cutting spending or a pay decrease if they don't.

Mandatory economics education throughout high school? LOL, I recall a conversation that I had with a young co worker during an economic downturn in the late 80s. She was upset at her lack of ability to make ends meet and was upset that the government "just didn't print more money." SMH.

The Constitution created this slippery-banana Republic; it is not our safeguard against it

What happens if they don't wear earrings? Funny typo you have there! :abgg2q.jpg:

Pay congressmen $1M a year but make them put all other sources of income on hold, and turn over all investments to a common management firm.

Same thing for Senators, but $3M a year.

Make the President make $3M and one dollar.

Something like that yes. AOC was correct about having trouble affording homes in NY and DC on a Congressional salary of $174K

No more de facto commissions on Federal spending

They have been for decades.

Never Trust a Constitution-Banger

Because our worthless Constitution lets a pre-owned political oligarchy determine what it means.
Nope. We the people went to sleep and allowed it to happen.
