Mars is too far, too hard to get to, and would not directly benefit mankind a bit.

We should be building underground cities on the Moon. When we have 100,000 people living on Luna, then it makes sense to start thinking about Mars.

Are you familiar with the history of the 1960's? We spent billions on war, but still managed to go to the moon. We should build on tat instead of pipe dreams of sending a human to Mars to probably die there.

You can go to the moon in about 3-4 days. Or you can go to Mars is about 3-4 years. Which one is the easier lift?

Don´t forget that "going to the moon" was part of the cold war. By the way, the landings thereafter lacked the audience of the first run.
And the question is what is the point of new lunar missions? There is none, unless it is another political race. You probably know that China is planing a landing.

Good question. Maybe I have the answer.

The short answer is ...... there ain't room for everyone on the space craft(s) so the majority of the population will have to perish where they stand when the catastrophy (whatever it will be) will destroy all living things on earth. We've already seen panic in the streets more than once. Maybe earth will become a derelict planet with panic and death at every corner or maybe earth will be completely destroyed.
