I know it varies by brand. I bought La Magera this last time. It's hot af. I buy it to make shakshuka and whatever other dishes I am eyeing. This is so hot that it destroys everything in it's path. I bought two jars and sent one with my kid to use while at college because he cooks a lot, too. He brought it back. I need another brand. I don't have time to make it from scratch. Does anyone else here use harissa? If so, what brand?
 
I like it. It's good stuff but it differs wildly by brand. I have been using the bottle I have to mix with sour cream for tacos or shakshuka. I'm telling you this other unopened bottle is not ok. It's not.

I'd reccomend making it yourself.
That way you can tune it to your liking.
