Hmm..Well, while I don't condone that especially with more and more power being given to datacenters running AI equipment and programs, it really isn't a targeted program. It hits everyone. It's not like the power company can remotely control your thermostat. They'll just reduce the amount of power to a bloc of homes on a grid...or cut it off completely.

/——/ Except that I can remotely control my thermostat via an app and Wi-Fi. If I can do it, hen he power company can too.

If you get hacked. There was really funny and cool episode of the rebooted "X-Files" that dealt with this.
I doubt an electric conglomerate would bother trying to hack a bazillion thermostats when they could just throttle or cut off the juice to grids entirely.

They put some kind of Electric smart meter setup outside on CA. Some thought to read via wifi.

Yes, as posted above, may thought they can reduce power coming in on bad days and you can't get below 78F?

Maybe they cycle power off on slowly? That would screw up everything? They can't limit current cant they?

Suppose they could dropped voltage before the stree transformer? What would that do?

I know what I did, I moved. Problem solvedfor now

yes they can if you let them install one of their thermostats...

In CA they offered $100 to let them fool with the power meter stuff. I ignored it for years. One day they just came and did it. Never noticed it any effect in use before moving? But AC never needed much anyway in Northern Cal. SOCal, yes. Unless coastal I suppose?

You can not be trusted to save the planet or your neighbor. Only the govt knows best. Comply......don't complain
No one can be trusted (not even me). :omg:

I have 8 full cords of eood for my outdoor boiler. Our house isnt that big, so we may go thru 4. There is NOTHING better for the nation than a very frigid snowy winter. I hope its an intense one.

Some old bastards with poor circulation cannot be comfortable in winter at temperatures that are comfortable to other healthy people. I cannot believe that this will ever happen.

Wrong. They need to stay prepared. Get out and cut wood. Put it in the wood stove.

TBH I wouldn't care if they throttled me when it is cold outside. It is when they try it when it is closing in on triple digits I would go nuts if they cut the AC off.

i have received several of those "offers" in the mail - yeah... no. In the trash.
Remember California? SoCal gas turned 41,000 people's homes to 75 after these customers "agreed" to allow the utility to control their device in case of shortages.

If it's not warm enough, put an ice pack on the temp sensor. If it won't get cool enough, put a hand warmer on the sensor. Problem solved.
