Since 3000 cherry trees were gifted to Washington DC from the mayor of Tokyo in 1912 as a symbol of friendship between the two countries, people from all over the US and the world have come each spring to view the blossoms. Since a number of trees will have to be moved for landscaping along the tidal basin, Prime Minister Kishida let Biden know on a recent visit that 250 additional trees will be given to reinforce the symbol of friendship and maintain the beauty of the area.

That's why people come in springtime to view the trees. In Japan it's even better. Whole office buildings empty out, workers sitting under the trees as the cherry blossom petals float gently all around them. Oh, and they get super loaded too.
