So the author and screenwriter that wrote "The Martian" starring Matt Damon that nearly everyone likes teamed up together to give us "Hail Mary".

Hail Mary is getting great reviews and doing well at the box office.

I saw it last night with my wife and we both loved it. We also both read the book. Wife liked the movie better. It's one of my favorite recent books so I dont know that I can say "better" than the book but I did love the movie as much.

One of the things the old folks on this board will like is the minimal use of CGI and the reliance on physical set pieces.
  • $200M was spent making the movie
  • They built a life size spaceship to shoot the scenes in and CGI'd in some details.
  • Their is an alien life that is puppet and animatronics not CGI and it adds to the immersion

The sound and visuals were stunning. If you can see and hear it on IMAX go see it - I'll lend you money if that's an issue LOL.

Even you right wing nuts can be ok without worrying about losing your anti-woke card. Sure its an international event but the white guy American gets the billing, played by a Canadian of course. So maybe you will have complaints.

Sounds interesting, but 2:36 is a long time.

Its a little long but the time is put into the action not a super long set up. You basically start in the action and they wave it at you all movie. Its just a complex story. They cut out half the book from the begining where they are figuring out what is going on very sciency. The whole movie is how to solve what is going on with science and action.

I read the book a while ago, and am planning on seeing the movie on Tuesday with my wife and some friends. I saw the article below and have avoided reading it until I see the movie.

Movie versions almost always ruin a good book. We'll see.

The book was very heavy on the science. A little too much, in my opinion. Some parts really dragged.

Because the OP took gratuitous and unnecessary shots at conservatives, I can't trust his judgment and will not see yet another stupid movie.

Yep -- everything has to be culture war with these hyper-partisans.

I love good science fiction and I love movies, but don't want to see a movie where it is obvious that I am being manipulated towards a certain political view. The most recent Oscar winner was ALL about promoting a radical political agenda, so I am cautious, too.

Precisely. Well said.

Sigh, I knew you couldn't resist.....As soon as I saw it was a Foghorn post I said to my self "Self, I bet he throws in some BS about Trump or right-leaners".

It must suck to be so predictable. 😐

And his fantasy of how wealthy he is. LOL

I know. It's so junior high school. How absurd. :icon_rolleyes:

I was wondering how they’d handle that. I thought the book was clever and interesting
