I actually hadn't heard this claim before, but apparently some people liken the H-1B visa to being an indentured servant (as some of my ancestors were). Another of several common misconceptions about the program.

These invasive job thieves would deserve no pity from patriots even if they were indentured servants. Long ago, America proved that it has the greatest talent pool in history. But because of, ironically indentured-servitude college education, that pool only skims a little water off the top and might as well be a dry hole.

H1-B visas are primarily for degreed professionals who fulfill specialty skill jobs.

The program has safeguards built into it. The prospective employer has to demonstrate to INS that no citizen or Green Card holder is available to take the job. Of course, this is often abused, and a local law firm where I live was recorded a few years ago telling an employer that that would be no problem, they could fake it.

As with our immigration laws generally, there is no problem with the program as it exists, it just has to be properly administered and enforced.

Well they are kind of...

Let me explain. If someone is hired by an employer and the individual is dependent on an H-1B visa and the employer withdraws the visa support or fires the employee, the employee has a 60 day grace period in which to either (a) find a new employer to sponsor the H-1B, or (b) depart the country.

Employers know, and employees know, that the employee can be abused with long hours and under hard conditions (physical or mental) given that if the employee makes any waves - they will be deported.

Well for the $100K it takes to get an H1B visa under Trump, I'd go with the lesbian basket weaving candidate every time.
