In their live music - completely light-years different from their studio album junk - the Grateful Dead used to combine lots of different musical styles. From old-fashioned country, to improv jazz, to LSD-soaked liquid, electronic dance jams soaked with hints of other musical genres. I actually followed the Grateful Dead around the western US from '92-'95 and when the Dead played, all divisions of musical categories were off! They'd jam any number of different style genres. Including a solid flare of country/western.
